Bill Roache is the latest celebrity to be arrested on suspicion of sex offences in the fallout of the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Detectives have spent months painstakingly investigating allegations of historic abuse, in some case dating back to the fifties.

Many are part of Operation Yewtree, which is probing allegations against Savile and others.

Funnyman Freddie Starr, 70, was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree last December and rearrested last month over claims he groped a 14-year-old girl in Savile’s dressing room. He is on bail.

Publicist Max Clifford, 70, was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree last December and has been charged with 11 counts of indecent assault. He appears at London’s Westminster magistrages’ court on May 28.

Shamed pop star Gary Glitter, 68, was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree last October on allegations of sexual abuse dating back to the fifties. He is on bail.

Comedian Jim Davidson, 59, was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree last January after allegations of sexual assault were levelled against him and he has been bailed until later this month.

Entertainer Rolf Harris, 83, was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree last November on suspicion of sex offences but his name only became public last month. He has been bailed until later this month.

Disc jockey Dave Lee Travis, 67, was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree last October after two former BBC employees came forward to claim he had assaulted a number of women at the Beeb. He is currently on bail.

Veteran broadcaster Stuart Hall, 83, was arrested in December last year and has since been charged with raping a woman of 22 in 1976 and indecently assaulting 14 girls aged between nine and 16 in allegations dating from 1967-86. His arrest was not part of Operation Yewtree. He is due to stand trial later this year.

Coronation Street’s Michael Le Vell, 48, who plays mechanic Kevin Webster, was arrested in September, 2011, and has been charged with 19 offences, including six of rape. His arrest was not part of Operation Yewtree. He will stand trial later ths year.

His Corrie co-star Andrew Lancel, 42, who played Frank Foster was arrested in November last year and has been charged with six indecent assaults on a teenage boy dating back to 1993. His arrest was not part of Operation Yewtree. He will stand trial next month.
